Report: Kremlin sees bill on social networks control unrealistic

MOSCOW, Apr 10 (PRIME) -- A bill submitted to Russian parliament by deputy Vitaly Milonov, to register users of social networks only with passport data and ban minors from using such resources, does not seem quite realistic to the Kremlin, the local BBC service reported on Monday, quoting presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

“We have not seen the essence of the bill and have just read in mass media about the points it contains,” Peskov said, adding that the initiative sounds little probable. “The Kremlin will hardly take any standing here.”

Milonov, a member of the ruling United Russia party, wants registration in social networks to be done only with passports with no pseudonyms used or screenshots of correspondence distributed without consent of its participants. The bill also seeks to forbid using social networks to pass over information on unsanctioned campaigns and spam.

The deputy’s colleagues said Milonov had not discussed his idea with them. A person close to the ruling body of the State Duma, the parliament’s lower house, said the bill would be unlikely adopted.

According to the Russian Public Opinion Research Center, a ban for children of under 14 to use social networks is welcomed by 62% of Russians.
